Addressing Your Pain

Getting timely care for joint pain or back pain through the NHS can feel like an uphill battle. With an average wait time of 12 weeks for musculoskeletal appointments, many patients are left struggling with pain that disrupts their daily lifes. During this delay, simple aches can worsen, impacting work, sleep, and overall quality of life.

The Struggle of Delayed Care

Delaying care for these issues can turn new, manageable problem into a long-lasting condition. What starts as a minor discomfort might develop into long-term pain that requires more extensive or prolonged treatment. The longer pain persists, the more it can affect your mobility, energy levels, and even mental well-being, creating a cycle that’s hard to break.

  • What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, to improve overall health. Read More?
  • Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic care in the UK is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), ensuring practitioners meet professional standards. When performed by a registered chiropractor, chiropractic treatment is generally considered safe and effective for musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Safety & Effectiveness NHS guidance acknowledges that some people find chiropractic care helpful for conditions like back pain, joint pain, and migraines. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend manual therapy, including spinal manipulation, for certain types of back pain.
  • Do I need a referral from my doctor to see a chiropractor?
You do not need a referral from a GP to see a chiropractor in the UK. Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, meaning you can book an appointment directly for all musuloskeletal disorders.
  • Are Chiropractors doctors?
I get this question all the time. Chiropractors are NOT registered medical doctors, they are registered Doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractors hold a doctorate degree legally entitling them to use the title because of their extensive education and training.
  • What conditions can Chiropractic Care and Sport Rehabilitation help with?
Chiropractic Care and Sport Rehabilitation focuses on musculoskeletal and some nervous system disorders, particularly those affecting the spine, joints, and muscles. Conditions thatwe may be able to helo with include: Spinal & Joint Conditions Low back pain (acute and chronic) Neck pain Sciatica (nerve pain radiating down the leg) Herniated discs (mild to moderate cases) Sacroiliac joint dysfunction Postural & Biomechanical Issues Forward head posture Rounded shoulders Pelvic misalignments Functional scoliosis (mild to moderate cases, as supportive care) Muscle & Soft Tissue Disorders Muscle tension and spasms Trigger points (knots in muscles) Myofascial pain syndrome Fibromyalgia (as part of a multi-disciplinary approach) Extremity Conditions Shoulder pain (rotator cuff strain, impingement syndrome) Knee pain (patellofemoral syndrome, osteoarthritis support) Hip pain (alignment-related issues, SI joint dysfunction) Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) Plantar fasciitis (as part of a comprehensive plan) Headaches & Neurological Symptoms Tension headaches Cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck) Migraine relief Read More? Vertigo & dizziness (cervicogenic causes, BPPV) Sports & Occupational Injuries Repetitive strain injuries (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis) Work-related postural strain Sports injuries Pregnancy-Related Pain Lower back and pelvic pain Sciatic nerve irritation Postural changes and spinal stress Chiropractic Care and Sports Rehabilitation typically involves spinal adjustments, mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitative exercises, and lifestyle recommendations. While it can be beneficial for many conditions, it's best used as part of a comprehensive healthcare approach and may not be appropriate for severe structural or systemic medical conditions.
  • What to expect at a chiropractic appointment?
Your first chiropractic appointment typically lasts 30–60 minutes and involves a thorough assessment of your condition, medical history, and physical examination. 1. Consultation & Medical History The chiropractor will ask about your symptoms, lifestyle, medical history, and any previous injuries. They may inquire about your posture, daily activities, and exercise habits to identify contributing factors. 2. Physical Examination This may include postural analysis, range of motion tests, muscle strength assessments, and spinal evaluation. Orthopaedic and neurological tests may be performed to check for nerve function and joint mobility. In some cases, you may be referred for X-rays or MRI scans if necessary. 3. Diagnosis & Treatment Plan The chiropractor will explain their findings and discuss whether chiropractic care is suitable for you. A personalised treatment plan will be created, which may include: Chiropractic adjustments (spinal manipulation). Soft tissue therapy (massage, trigger point therapy). Rehabilitation exercises and lifestyle advice. Posture and ergonomic recommendations. 4. First Treatment (If Suitable) If deemed appropriate, you may receive your first chiropractic adjustment during the initial visit. Some patients feel immediate relief, while others may experience temporary soreness. 5. Aftercare & Follow-Up Your chiropractor may recommend follow-up appointments, exercises, or lifestyle changes. You should report any unusual symptoms or concerns after treatment.
  • Does chiropractic treatment hurt?
Chiropractic treatment is generally not painful, but some patients may experience mild discomfort or soreness after an adjustment. This is usually temporary and resolves within 24–48 hours.
  • How long does a typical chiropractic session last?
Sessions usually last 15–30 minutes, depending on the treatment plan and complexity of your condition.
  • How soon will I see results with Chiropractic care?
Results vary by individual. Some notice improvement after the first session, while others require multiple visits for significant changes. The people who improve the fastest are thought who action the recommendations made by the Chiropractor, this may include lifestyle changes, implementing corrrective exercises and taking ownership of their body and complaint. The Chiropractor is there to assist you not heal you. Only your own body has the ability to heal.
  • Can children or pregnant women receive chiropractic care?
Yes, chiropractic care is safe for children and pregnant women. Specialised techniques are used to ensure comfort and safety. Flux Chiropractic see patients aged 5 and older. A parent or guardian must be present for patients under the age of 16. Flux Chiropractic see pregnant women in there second and third trimester only. Treatment options may be limited. Contact us for more information.
  • Are chiropractic adjustments safe for seniors?
Chiropractic care can be safe for seniors when performed by a qualified chiropractor. It is often used to help manage back pain, neck pain, joint stiffness, and mobility issues. However, adjustments should be modified to suit the patient’s age, bone density, and overall health. Potential Benefits for Seniors Pain Relief – Chiropractic care may help with chronic back pain, arthritis, and joint stiffness. Studies suggest that spinal manipulation can improve pain and function in older adults. Improved Mobility & Balance – Gentle spinal adjustments and mobilisation techniques may improve posture, flexibility, and movement. Some research suggests chiropractic care may help reduce fall risk. Non-Invasive & Drug-Free – Chiropractic care provides a non-surgical alternative to pain management, which may reduce reliance on medication, including opioids. Safety Considerations for Seniors Bone Health Concerns – Osteoporosis or low bone density can increase the risk of fractures. Chiropractors use gentler techniques (e.g., low-force mobilisations, stretching, and soft tissue therapy) for seniors with fragile bones. Pre-Existing Conditions – Conditions such as arthritis, spinal stenosis, or vascular disorders may require a more cautious approach. Neck Manipulations & Stroke Risk – Some studies have explored a potential (but rare) link between cervical spine adjustments and stroke in older adults. Seniors with a history of vascular disease or dizziness should discuss this risk with their chiropractor.
  • Will I get treatment at the same visit as my assessment, or do I have to come back for this?
Our goal is to help you recover as quickly as possible. Whenever feasible, we will provide treatment during the same visit as your comprehensive consultation. However, in certain cases where your condition is more complex and requires a thorough assessment, treatment may need to be scheduled for a later time.
  • Will you be able to liaise with other specialists I already see (such as my GP, massage therapist etc)?
Of course! We’ll happily work with who we need to in order to get you functioning optimally. We’ll also recommend other practitioners we work with if we believe they will help you heal faster.
